The Model Y from the US automaker can be counted among the electrically powered SUV crossovers. The vehicle was presented to the public on March 15, 2019, after it was first announced in mid-2017. Accordingly, it has been produced in Fremont, USA since the beginning of 2020. The vehicle has been manufactured in Shanghai since January 2021.
Overall, the Model Y is approximately ten percent larger than the Model 3, on which it is largely based. It offers space for up to seven passengers. The model variants include the Standard Range RWD, the Long Range RWD & Long Range AWD and the Performance AWD. The first two variants mentioned are powered by rear-wheel drive, the other two with all-wheel drive. The long range models are particularly aimed at the greatest possible range. Both vehicles are expected to cover 533 and 540 km respectively.
The Standard Range model has an engine output of 150 kW (204 hp), the Long Range RWD has 271 hp and 199 kW, the Long Range AWD has 514 hp and 378 kW and the Performance model has 534 hp and 393 kW. Accordingly, the latter two models are the most powerful of the Model Y. The Performance model requires 3.7 s from 0 to 100 km/h, the entry-level Standard Range model requires 6.3 s from 0 to 96 km/h. The Performance and Long Range AWD models, with a curb weight of just over two tonnes, are also around 250 kg heavier than the Standard Range variant.
The maximum speed is 250 km/h for the Performance model and 193 km/h for the Standard Range model. All vehicle types have a turning circle of 12.1 m. All models also offer a trunk at the front and rear, sun glazing in the front area and a glass roof. The equipment or software for autonomous driving can be booked for an additional charge, as can retrofitting a trailer hitch.
At Supercharger stations, the Model Y can be charged up to a range of 241 km in 15 minutes. The vehicle also offers a 15-inch display with touchscreen on which all possible functions for operating the vehicle are integrated. For example, music can be played via Bluetooth. The front and rear seats are heated.

Overall impression
